My Tattoo Removal Journey: Why I Started Letting Go of the Tattoos I Once Loved

  • 4 min read

There was a time when I loved each and every one of my tattoos dearly. The dozens of them decorating my body, each just as special to me as the other. Some of them meant a lot, and some of them meant absolutely nada. I loved them all the same.

Each one captured a version of me that felt permanent at the time... and for years I loved them, I really did.

But over the past year or so, I’ve been slowly, intentionally removing near-all of those tattoos using the PICOSure Pro laser - not because I inherently regret them, and not because they were “mistakes,” but simply because they no longer represent who I am today.

This is why I decided to remove, how I'm removing them - and whether or not I think you should, too.

Tattoos Can Be Meaningful… and Still Outgrown

We don’t talk enough about how normal it is to evolve. Like... we aren't monoliths!

Think about the 24 year old version of you. Fresh out of college, near-fully developed frontal lobe, probably - like me and every other mid-twenties individual - making decisions that were probably stupid but felt smart at the time. Do you align 1:1 with that individual? Chances are, you're a completely different person now.

What felt aligned at 25 might not resonate at 35. What once felt expressive can eventually feel heavy & outdated.

My tattoos were reflections of past chapters; of phases marked by growth, survival, creativity, rebellion & healing. This is not to sh*t on them - they served their purpose beautifully. But as I grew older, evolved, matured & gradually found more clarity in who I am now... some of them started to feel loud in a way that no longer matched my present-day state of being.

And guess what? That’s OKAY. In fact, it's NORMAL.

Outgrowing something doesn’t mean it was wrong. It just means you’ve changed.

Why I Chose Laser Tattoo Removal (and Why It Felt Healing)

Choosing to remove tattoos felt.. surprisingly empowering. Laser tattoo removal allows you to honor your past, and choose what you carry forward with intention.

Using the PICOSure Pro Laser that I brought into The Brow Project last year, I’ve been able to gradually lighten and remove tattoos with precision, minimal downtime, and respect for the skin underneath. The process is slow by design, and I’ve actually come to appreciate that.

Nothing meaningful happens overnight - and the best results take sweet, sweet time & patience.

The Journey (Because it IS a Journey.)

Speaking of time - this process has taken over a year, to be fully transparent with you. Why?

  • You need recovery periods in between sessions to let the skin heal

  • Depending on the type of ink used and the depth at which it was placed, it can take more or less sessions to reach full removal

  • On a personal level - I'm a busy gal & often took more time than needed between sessions. Life, yanno?

That being said; the removal has been significant & without too much pain - which if you know anything about the laser tattoo removal process, is MAJOR.

This process is notorious for being somewhat of a f*cking headache to go through (20+ excruciatingly painful sessions - no thanks) but with PICO, you can expect less pain, less downtime and less necessary sessions. The journey has flown by!

Why PICOSure Pro Made Alllll the Difference

As someone who works with lasers professionally, I’m deeply aware of how important technology is when it comes to skin safety and results.

PICOSure Pro uses ultra-short picosecond pulses to break down ink particles more efficiently than traditional lasers, allowing your body to naturally clear the pigment over time. For me, that meant:

  • Faster clearance

  • Fewer sessions

  • Less trauma to the surrounding skin

  • Better outcomes for stubborn or dark inks

Growth Isn’t Linear, and Neither Is Identity

We live in a culture that tells us to “commit” and “stick with it,” - but I say screw that.

You’re allowed to change your mind.

You’re allowed to want something different.

You’re allowed to update your outer expression as your inner world evolves.

You're allowed to evolve because you're a human being !!!

Having access to tattoo removal - especially advanced laser technology - creates freedom. Freedom to soften, refine, and recalibrate without judgment and with your own personal interest & growth at the forefront.

Do what you want - and if that's changing your mind about old tattoos, so be it. I'm right here with the PICO laser ready to zap that bad boy right off.

For Anyone Considering Tattoo Removal

If you’re thinking about removing or lightening a tattoo, ask yourself this:

"Do I regret getting this?"

"Is it taking up space in my mind thinking about how much I want it gone?"

"Is this tattoo impeding on my ability to live life?"

"Does this ink represent who I am anymore?"

If the answer yes to any of these, that’s enough.

Tattoo removal can be a deeply personal, empowering process - one that beautifully honors who you were, while making deserved space for the lovely person you’re becoming. It can also be a way to stop thinking about how much you want the tattoo gone, and a way to gift yourself peace of mind.

Final Thoughts

For me this removal journey has been, above all, about alignment.

Ditching what no longer serves or aligns with me, in favor of my outward appearance matching the inner person I've evolved into.

I’m truly grateful to offer tattoo removal as a service not just because, well, it flat-out works - but because of what it allows people to do: grow, heal, and redefine themselves on their own terms.
