Trips to SoCal, Tattoo Removal & Temporary Cat-Sitting: The August Diary

August slipped away into a moment of time… or whatever Taylor Swift said. I can’t believe that the last full month of Summer has come and gone. Although, if you also live in Texas… you know the weather won’t reflect that for at least another month plus. Buuut we can at least pretend we’re mere weeks away from having a crisp chill in the air and leaves crunching below our feet as we walk, can’t we? *cries in 100+ degree weather*

I can only think of one person - well, one laser - more ready for Fall than I am, and that’s my PICOSure Pro laser. She’s been waiting; charging up in anticipation for the colder months (aka, peak Laser Season.) and is geared up for alllll the brow tone, tattoo removal & skin rejuvenation appointments coming her way (and hopefully, you’ve already scheduled so that yours is on her roster 👀) I, however, couldn’t quite wait for Fall to arrive - but more on that later ;)

Without further ado - let’s dive right on into the month’s recap, shall we?

Three things about me:

1. I could, in another universe, live a very fulfilling & happy life on the west coast.

2. I adore EDM and RÜFÜS DU SOL in particular, and if you invite me to a show the chances of me tagging along are very high.

3. I love my people deeply.

This past month I had a weekend including all three (so basically, the highlight of my month - easily.) I had myself a weekend in San Diego to celebrate one of my closest friends Kristen’s birthday!

We came (to SD), we saw (RDS), we celebrated - BIG. We popped by Coronado Beach, which made coming back to notoriously known-for-its-nature Dallas 🙄 such a difficult task.

Girls' weekends every month, please!!!

I became a cat mom again! Well - kind of. I had the pleasure of cat-sitting for this adorable Sphinx named Scroty (you can fill in the blanks for how this sweet angel got his name.)

Lil’ Scroty stayed at the Blankenship residence for 10 entire days this past month, and we had a timeee. Truly bonded with this cat that weekend; we fell in love 🥹

But they say if you love something set it free, and unfortunately for me I did have to pass Scroty back to his owners 🥲  Aaand now I want a Sphinx of my own, naturally.

I was lucky enough to have a new gorgeous piece of art enter my collection - and it might mean more to me than any other pieces I currently have in my posession.

This STUNNING work was hand-painted by a Tibetan Buddhist Monk (!!!) and it’s absolutely breathtaking. I have such a deep appreciation for art; what inspires people to create, the techniques & craft they possess/utilize, their ability to share their gifts with the world via striking visual format and even the selflessness that comes with that.

I’m floored and feel an immense amount of gratitude to be able to call this piece mine.

For all my astrology gals, you're already aware that this month the New Moon was in Virgo - and of course, for me it was spent at Breathe for meditation.

If you’ve been an avid blog-reader for a minute (or maybe just follow me on IG; I talk about this place all the time let’s be honest) you know I frequent Breathe Meditation and Wellness on a several-times-a-week basis.

It’s a place I really consider to be a third home (second one being the studio, of course) and has become a true safe space for me.

Highly recommend checking this special place out if you're in the Dallas/DFW area <3

You know what I said earlier about having a go-around with PICO before the true start of laser season? Yeah; tattoo removal couldn’t wait for the leaves to change for me.

The main reason why we recommend avoiding lasers in the summer is because of sun exposure. It’s exponentially harder to avoid that when you’re traveling to the beach, outside watching your kid’s soccer matches in sweltering heat, or even just enjoying being able to walk the Katy Trail in a tank top and shorts. I took every precaution in the book (as I always do, but especially this time around): Keeping the area covered, staying on top of my SPF application & reapplication, maintaining the sun as my #1 op and steering clear of it whenever possible.

Waiting for my faves of the month? I won’t leave you hanging any longer - with no further ado, these are the Non-negotiable August products I have tried (& loved!) this past month:

Favorite Products:
  • Pat Mcgrath Invisibrow Gel | To all my clients & friends who have ever had the urge to bleach their brows - put the bleach down, and pick up a tube of this stuff. It genuinely gives you the look of bleached brows and coats every single hair, without being sticky or overly stiff. A product that gives you the look without the brow hair damage is definitely #browprojectapproved. Thank you, Mother Pat, on behalf of every aesthetic tech out there.

Midway through Brow Tone
Midway through Brow Tone

  • Innovative Optics Adhesive/Disposable Eye Shields | The last rec made the aesthetic techs that read these happy, this one’s gonna have you jumping for joy: what if I told you a product existed that would render your laser guard goggles useless? I’ve been swapping out the goggles for these adhesive eye guards on my clients, and it’s been a true game-changer for me. They don’t budge, and from what my clients have told me are much more comfortable than the standard plastic goggles. If you own & operate a laser in your practice, I could NOT recommend these MORE.

Favorite Misc. Item/Thing
  • PICOSure Pro | Got tattoo removal, have been talking about lasers in this blog; it was on my mind :P This is your sign to book your laser sessions for the fall, or to schedule your initial consultation with me!

  • Adults (TV Series) | My social media manager is hijacking my recap in order to, in her words, "force your audience to watch this incredible, laugh-out-loud show so that it gets picked up for a third season." To her point it honestly is witty as hell, so if you want a fun comedy that I'd liken to a Gen-Z variant of New Girl, it's a great watch! With 20 minute episodes and 8 ep. seasons, it's also one you could binge & knock out easily.

Protect your peace, protect your skin - and i’ll catch ya for the September Monologue 💋
