tap tap … is this thing on? HI! It has been a minute and a half since I’ve updated the blog - but we’re SO back, and better than ever, dare I say. It’s been a really big goal of mine to get the blog back up & running - and you know what? This is the year. Get excited & expect to hear more from your local permanent hottie in 2025. So , what’s been going on in The Brow Project PMU-niverse? Honestly.. it’s been busy AF over here - so let’s do a recap, shall we? I lovingly refer to this year as my “Year of Growth and Evolution.” For starters, I continued to dive even deeper  into my continued education & training. The industry doesn’t stop evolving just because we stop seeking new information! I think one massive indicator of a great service provider is their commitment to keeping up with the industry and its inevitable evolution. I want to always be on the forefront of what’s happening in the permanent makeup & beauty industry, in order to ensure I’m always providing the best services for my clients. I didn’t just further my professional education - but on a personal level, too. This year, I received both my Lagree Fitness and Sound Healing Certifications as well! These are practices I have leaned into for years, as they’ve been so transformative not just physically, but mentally. These practices hold such a special place in my head & heart, and I’m so grateful to have been able to dive even further into them. I had the opportunity to attend some exciting industry events, including a Milan PMU conference as well as Nano Club this past December! Service-wise, I started offering Nano Brows - which have seen massive  popularity in recent months! I’m planning on speaking more to that in the months to come - so keep an eye out for more Nano Brow content. Speaking of new arrivals, I started carrying the Obagi line! Lastly, I celebrated The Brow Project’s 8 year anniversary… which is a WILD thing to actually see written. 8 YEARS?! What’s the saying.. Regardless, I’m extremely proud of not just the past year, but the 7 years before that have led to now. So, what’s to come in 2025? For starters - a brand new service! Nano Brows. In the world of Permanent Makeup, this technique is the “IT Girl” du jour . These brows are absolutely everywhere, and I personally have seen the demand for these skyrocket. So - what do you need to know before you book that appointment? Nano Brows | The Brow Project Let’s start at square one: WTF are Nano Brows?   These are a semi-permanent eyebrow tattoo technique where individual, fine strokes are created with a nano needle, mimicking the natural growth of your brow hairs. Unlike microblading, which uses a slightly thicker blade, Nano Brows are created with a single-needle machine, making the strokes even more delicate and natural. Nano brows typically last 1 to 2 years (WITH proper care, which we’ll review after your appointment!) The technique is just one part of the equation - the other is about finding someone who understands your face shape and brow goals (hi, hello, hey 😘) Some things you want to look for are certification and experience. It is CRUCIAL that your artist is certified in permanent makeup, and has a healthy amount of experience doing Nano Brows. Look at their website, social pages, or don’t be afraid to even ask to see their portfolio - look at their before-and-after photos of previous clients, read reviews, ask for referrals, and make sure other clients are happy with their results. In other words… do the required reading and look at the receipts before you book that consult. Speaking of consults, a consultation is a non-negotiable . This takes place before your appointment, and is the place where we’ll discuss your brow goals + shape preferences, as well as act as a space where you can ask - and I can answer - any questions you might have. We’ll chat, get aligned and set both goals and expectations. I’ll assess your skin type and existing brow hair to ensure that Nano Brows are the best route and will work well for you. We’ll also work together to find a shade that matches your natural brows; picking the right shade is SO important, and I can customize a color that’s a perfect match for you. So we’ve had the consult, decided to proceed… what’s next? Pre-appointment prep . Avoid any waxing, threading, or tinting in the days leading up to your appointment. Nano Brow application will work its best on untouched, fresh brows. Avoid certain products, namely retinoids or any exfoliating products, around your brow area for at least a week prior. Being thirsty is also key 😉 Drinking plenty of water leading up to the day will help your skin stay hydrated and ultimately will work to ensure better pigment retention. The big day is finally here! You’ll check in, we’ll get you numbed via a strong AF topical numbing cream to help minimize discomfort. After you’re sufficiently numbed, I’ll take you back and start mapping out your brows. Once you’re happy with the shape, then the Nano Brow procedure begins. Typically, I’d say that the entire process from start to finish usually takes around 2 to 2 1/2 hours, sooo be prepared to relax and enjoy some quiet time. Come in your sweats, and with your fave music in mind - we’ll have it pumping through the speakers to make sure you’re at peak comfort throughout the whole experience. Nano Brows | The Brow Project Immediately post-appointment , your brows will look a little harsh, a little bold - but DON’T panic; it’s completely normal! There will be a bit of inflammation straight away due to the nature of the process, but they'll soften up over the following few days. You’ll need to avoid touching, picking, or scratching your brows as they heal. The healing process typically takes right around 7-10 days. During the healing period, avoid using makeup directly on the brows to prevent infection or irritation. Of course, you can reach out to me any time during the process if you have any questions or concerns. Since Nano Brows are semi-permanent , most clients tend to need a touchup around 6-8 weeks after their initial appointment to refine and perfect the shape and color. A second appointment is super common just to ensure the freshest, longest-lasting results. Nano brows typically last anywhere from 1-2 years just depending on your skin type, lifestyle, & adherence to aftercare protocols. Want to prolong the life of your brows? Avoid sun exposure, exfoliation, and excessive sweating around the brow area (...so sorry to all my infrared heated workout girlies - you might need a few more touchups than most!) - The TLDR? I love Nano Brows, and absolutely understand the hype. We're diving deep into my brain + inner thought processes for today's blog (okay wait - don't click out!) Lip Blushing is a hallmark service of mine, and one I love for how customizable it can be. I have dozens of pigments in my beauty arsenal, and from there I can blend, mix & transform them to create the perfect shade for you. Today, I’m pulling the metaphorical curtain back on my approach, as well as the process from ideation to ink 💋 Lip Blush Before/After 1: The Consultation The first step in creating your custom lip blush shade is to have a thorough consultation. This is a crucial part of the process, because it lets me understand your preferences as well as your desired outcome. Maybe you want a soft, subtle wash of color - or perhaps you want something bold AF. This is where I find out! During our consultation, we’ll chat through: Your preferred color  | Do you want a natural pink, a peachy nude, or a deeper rose hue? The intensity of the color  | Mute or Max Volume - are you looking for a subtle enhancement, or would you prefer a more vibrant result? Lip shape and definition  | Want to accentuate the natural shape of your lips - or do you want a more dramatic contour? This conversation helps me create a vision for your lips, and ensures we’re on the same page about your desired outcome. During this consultation I’ll also analyze your skin tone, as this will play quite a significant role in determining your perfect lip blush shade. Depending on whether your skin undertone pulls more warm, cool, or neutral - that can dramatically affect how certain pigments appear once they’re applied to the lips. I’ll take the time to carefully analyze your undertones in order to select a color that will complement your complexion and provide the most natural, flattering result. So what does that look like? If you have naturally cool undertones  - we might stay within a cool-toned color palette to maintain that undertone, or select warmer hues to neutralize that coolness. Warm undertones  often pair beautifully with peachy, coral, and terracotta shades - or we can go a bit cooler in hue in order to neutralize that warmth. If you’re blessed with neutral undertones,  you have a bit more versatility (lucky you!) and can pull off a wide range of colors - from soft pinks to deeper, mauve tones. The world really is your oyster! This step ensures that the color will not only enhance the lips but also harmonize with the rest of your facial features. Also - if you have lips that are a bit less pigmented with muted contrast , you have similarly versatile options in terms of color palettes to explore! 2: Your Custom Mix Now’s the fun part: it’s time to mix the pigments. This is where the artistry of lip blushing reallyyy comes into play. I’ll carefully combine different shades based on what we discuss during our consult to create a custom blend unique to you. This pigment mix is designed to mimic the natural flush of healthy, youthful lips - providing a boost of color that can last for years. Let's create some magic! Beyond preference & skin undertones, I’ll take into account other factors such as: Your natural lip color  | Some people have naturally darker lips, while others may have paler lips, and the goal here is to enhance your natural lip color - not completely cover it up. How the pigment will heal & age (short and long-term!)  | The pigments I use are specifically formulated to ensure they heal well and retain their true color over time - we use the good sh*t only. I take extra care in ensuring the blend will stay vibrant and not fade to an undesirable hue. 3: Prepping + Blushing Before I prep - you need to prep a bit beforehand, too! Make sure a week or two before the day-of you're staying hydrated, keeping the lips moist with a balm or mask, and routinely giving your lips a nice exfoliation to give me a smooth, even surface to work with. This is to ensure the color application isn't patchy or uneven during your treatment. My turn - and before anything, I’ll prep the lips by applying a numbing agent to minimize any potential discomfort. Afterwards, I’ll map out the shape of your lips, carefully designing a natural contour that best suits & complements your facial features. From there, using a fine precision needle, I’ll start applying your custom pigment blend to your lips. I always work slowly in layers to ensure an even and smooth application. This allows for a soft, gradual build-up of pigment in order to create the perfect, most precise blush. Ultimately, of course, the goal is to achieve a natural look that enhances the beauty of your lips, while providing juuust the perfect amount of color & definition. 4: Aftercare + Healing After your lip blushing is complete, I’ll give you detailed aftercare instructions to ensure that your lips heal properly and retain the pigment for as long as possible. This may include avoiding direct sun exposure, refraining from picking at scabs, and applying healing ointments to keep the lips moisturized. Healed Lip Blush It IS important to note that the color will go through a healing process, and you might notice some initial fading. However, after the healing period (give or take ~4-6 weeks), the final healed result (week 8) will reveal a stunning, custom lip blush color that looks fresh and natural. Your 2nd session to refine & perfect this result will be the cherry on top towards the lippies you've always dreamed of! The T . L . D .
