So, you’re ready to take the plunge and get the perfect pout with lip blushing? Yasss! To ensure your lips heal beautifully and the pigment lasts, it’s crucial to follow the right pre- and post-care steps. At The Brow Project, we’re all about giving you those “OMG, your lips!” moments, and a little care goes a long way in making that happen. Let’s dive into what you need to know!

Pre-Care: Prepping for Your Lip Blushing Glow-Up

Getting your lips ready is just as important as the treatment itself. Follow these steps to make sure your lips are prepped for perfection:

  • Cold Sore Prevention: If you’ve ever had cold sores, start taking antiviral medication 3 days before your appointment and continue after. While it may not prevent an outbreak, it’ll help your lips heal faster and avoid potential pigment loss or scarring.

  • Exfoliate & Hydrate: Start using a gentle lip scrub 1-2 weeks before your appointment, once a day. Follow up with a moisturizing balm to keep lips soft and free of dry skin. Hydrated lips = better results.

  • Skip Alcohol & Caffeine: Limit alcohol, caffeine, and stimulants 24 hours before your session to reduce swelling and sensitivity.

  • No Sunburn or Excessive Tanning: Avoid sunburn or tanning for 2 weeks before and after your procedure. Sun exposure can affect the healing process and pigment retention.

  • Avoid Blood Thinners: Steer clear of medications like aspirin, niacin, vitamin E, fish oil, and ibuprofen for 7 days prior (unless prescribed by a doctor). These can increase the risk of bruising.

  • Retin-A and AHAs: Discontinue the use of Retin-A and Alpha Hydroxy Acids at least 1 week before your appointment to avoid irritation.

  • Lip Fillers: Wait at least 8 weeks after getting lip fillers before booking your lip blush treatment. If you want fillers after your session, give it 4-6 weeks to heal first.

Post-Care: Rocking Your New Pout Like a Pro

Your lip transformation doesn’t end at the appointment—post-care is where the magic happens! Here’s how to take care of your lips after the procedure:

  • Swelling & Tenderness: Expect your lips to feel tight and swollen for 1-2 days. You can apply ice for 10-30 minutes on the first day, but wrap the ice pack in a clean paper towel.

  • Bruising & Tenderness: Minor bruising is normal and will settle within a couple of days. Once the numbing wears off, your lips might feel tender, like a mild sunburn.

  • Hands Off: Keep your hands clean and avoid touching the treated area to prevent infection.

  • Gentle Cleansing: On day 4, if stubborn scabs remain, gently massage the area with warm water and your fingertip. No scrubbing or picking—seriously, don’t mess with it!

  • Moisturize Religiously: Use the ointment provided to keep your lips hydrated for the first 4-6 days as they heal.

  • Avoid Harsh Products: No makeup, cleansers, peroxide, alcohol, or Neosporin on the treated area until it’s healed.

  • Sun Protection: Stay out of direct sun or tanning beds for at least 2 weeks. For long-term care, avoid direct sun exposure for 4 weeks and always wear SPF on your lips.

  • Return to Lip Products Carefully: By day 7, you can start wearing your favorite lip products again—but avoid long-wear formulas and stains for 4 weeks.

  • Color Changes Are Normal: Your lip color will go through changes over the next 8 weeks. Don’t stress—the true color will “bloom” by the 8-week mark, revealing your gorgeous final look!
